Recently, I\u2019ve found myself reflecting on what it means to truly breathe in gratitude. <\/em>Not just for the easy days \u2014 but for the moments we\u2019ve endured, the people who\u2019ve stood beside us, and the soft light that returns after the dark.<\/em><\/p>\n

This poem, \u201cThe Thankful Breath,\u201d<\/strong> is a meditation on gratitude \u2014 for family, for friends, and for the quiet strength that keeps us moving forward.<\/em><\/p>\n

Breathe in\u2014<\/h3>\n

the hush before the sun,
\nthe soft gold stretching across the edges of the world,
\nas if the light itself were whispering,
\nYou made it through the night.<\/p>\n

Breathe out\u2014<\/h3>\n

the weight you carried here,
\nthe stones of what was hard,
\nthe shadows that stayed too long.
\nLet them tumble from your chest
\nlike autumn leaves returning to the earth.<\/p>\n

Gratitude is not always bright.
\nSometimes it flickers\u2014
\na small flame cupped in the trembling hands of morning,
\na heartbeat steady beneath old scars.
\nIt is the quiet knowing
\nthat we have been broken,
\nand still,
\nwe breathe.<\/p>\n

Breathe in\u2014<\/h3>\n

the scent of coffee,
\nthe soft clatter of someone else awake,
\nthe sound of your own pulse saying,
\nStill here. Still here.<\/p>\n

And nearby\u2014
\nlaughter rising from another room,
\nthe warmth of voices that know your name,
\nthat have seen you in your storms and stayed.
\nThe hand on your shoulder,
\nthe shared glance that says,
\nI understand.<\/p>\n

Breathe out\u2014<\/h3>\n

thanks for the simple things:
\nfor warmth,
\nfor light,
\nfor family whose love does not falter,
\nfor friends who remind us who we are
\nwhen we have forgotten.<\/p>\n

For every meal shared in quiet gratitude,
\nevery story told across a table glowing with candles,
\nfor the way love endures\u2014
\nsoftly,
\nsteadily,
\nthrough the long nights and bright mornings.<\/p>\n

For this is what it means to be thankful:
\nto stand in the thin light of a new day,
\nhands open,
\nheart unguarded,
\nand to know that even the hard things
\nhave made a place for the light to enter.<\/p>\n

And in that light\u2014
\nwe find each other.<\/p>\n
